Publisher's Description: Emphasizing the historical character of biblical revelation, Vos was able to clarify the pervasive meaning of Scripture by bringing into view its basic structure. Far from an array of isolated prooftexts, the Bible was, for Vos, an organism - its rich diversity giving unaminous expression of its redemptive message. In Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation, the shorter writings of this famed theologian have been gathered under one cover. The reader will discover here numerous major biblical and theological studies, selected addresses, and book reviews, as well as a 13-page bibliography of Vos’s writings.
576 Pages Published May 2001
About the Geerhardus Vos: Geerhardus Vos (1862-1949) was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to the USA in 1881. He earned degrees from Calvin Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the University of Strasbourg (Ph.D. in Arabic). In 1894 he was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in the USA. Before beginning a 39-year tenure on Princeton’s faculty, he was professor of systematic and exegetical theology at Calvin for five years. |

"An important publishing venture..., for it makes available a large number of writings of a notable hologian whichhad previously been difficult to obtain.... especially our ministers, but also all those who are interested in theology, ought to purchase this book." - H. HANKO, STANDARD BEARER
"There are great riches in this volume for the student of theology. All who are convinced of the importance of biblical theology and thoroughgoing scholarship will prize this collection" - EVANGELICAL PRESBYTERIAN
"Dr. Gaffin has made valuable articles available to people who might never have tackled one of Vos’s larger works. . . . the book belongs in theological libraries, but it might well be given to young ministers beginning their libraries, as well as general readers interested in the Reformed faith.” - CHRISTIAN OBSERVER (AUG. 2001)
"Possessing rare and unprecedented insight into the meaning and right handling of Scripture, a truly commensurate influence first begins to materialize in the interpretation and hermeneutical reflection of a later day, despite the warm appreciation and admiration of many contemporaries. This is the case with the work of Geerhardus Vos, most of whose shorter writings are reprinted in this volume. - Richard B. Gaffin, Charles Krahe Professor of Biblical & Systematic Theology, Westminster Theological Seminary
"This volume presents a collection of penetrating essays ranging from the eschatology of the New Testament to a survey of Reformed covenant theology. Vos is known as the man who introduced to the world an orthodox Reformed expression of biblical theology. These essays reveal a mind saturated with God’s Word and concerned to understand the organic fullness and connections among the various parts of Scripture. - Jeff Waddington - Westminster Bookstore
