July 2008 Westminster Classic Selection
Publisher Description: A Symposium on Scripture by some of the founding faculty members of Westminster Theological Seminary: Murray, Young, Stonehouse, Skilton, Woolley, Kuiper, and Van Til. Includes essays on Scripture's attestation, authority, transmission, and relevancy; scriptural preaching; and Scripture and nature.
328 pages Originally pulished in 1946, this is the second edition published in 1967 |
|
(From the foreword to the second edition):"This book [has] rendered great service in helping and strengthening the faith of true evangelical people...[I] urge all who are anxious to stand steadfastly against the alarming drift even among evangelicals to read it and study it with iligence. It will inform their minds, warm their hearts, and strengthen their resolution."
- D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
"[One of] the two most helpful books on biblical authority...and excellent series of Reformed essays."
- Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
This volume contains helpful essays by the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary of 1946 dealing with Scripture and authority. John Murray writes on the attestation of Scripture, and Drs. Young and Stonehouse address issues related to the Old and New Testaments. John Skilton discusses textual transmission; Paul Woolley addresses the relevancy of the Bible; R. B. Kuiper offers a helpful essay on Scriptural preaching. Perhaps the best-known contribution to this collection is Cornelius Van Til's "Nature and Scripture," in which he discusses the two kinds of natural theology that stem from the Westminster Standards and secular philosophy and stresses the organic relationship of natural and special revelation. - Jeff Waddington - Westminster Bookstore Staff
