Recommended by Alan Groves of Westminster Theological Seminary.
See all of Professor Grove's recommendations.
Professor Recommendation: This book is a for all who struggle with humility. With characteristic wit and deceptive simplicity, Mahaney exposes the rag and bone shop of the human heart for what it is and offers practical, biblical advice for the daily destruction of pride. God opposes the proud; if that thought worries you as it should, then this book is required reading. - Carl R. Trueman, professor of historical theology and church history, November 2005.
Publisher's Review: God clearly states that He is drawn to the humble. He's also clear that He opposes the proud. These two, humility and pride, cannot coexist. Where one is fostered, the other is defeated. Which will you pursue? C. J. Mahaney paints a striking picture of the daily battle quietly raging within every Christian and asks whether you will passively accommodate the enemy of your soul, pride, or actively cultivate your best friend, humility. When you acknowledge the deception of pride and intentionally humble yourself, you become free to savor abundant mercies and unlikely graces. You will find a new life is yours " a life God richly favors. A God-glorifying life you donβt want to miss.

It is rare that a book can so gracefully walk the tightrope between doctrinal precision and practical application. This book does just that. Mahaney's diagnosis of pride is 'graciously convicting." His self-effacing manner enables the reader to accept the biblical diagnosis of pride without feeling condemned and paralyzed. Quoting Isaiah 66:2 "This is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word," Mahaney inspires the reader to grow in the very humility God cherishes. The book is personally challenging and wonderfully practical. His last section 'How to weaken pride and cultivate the humility' is worth the book itself. You will truly WANT to grow in humility after reading this book. |

Get this book now. Very few books have helped me as much as this one. The practical suggestions in section 3 are alone worth 10 million dollars. |
