Publisher Description: This clear and accessible treatment of key biblical themes related to human suffering and evil is written by one of the most respected evangelical biblical scholars alive today. Carson brings together a close, careful exposition of key biblical passages with helpful pastoral applications. The second edition has been updated throughout.
From the Author's Preface to the Second Edition: "I am grateful that [this book] is being republished in this revised edition. The structure of the argument has not changed. Many of the illustrations have been brought up to date, and a number of other improvements have been attempted. Discussion of AIDS, for instance, needs not only updated statistics, but a number of other substantial changes. The NIV has been replaced by the TNIV. Yet I have tried to preserve the level of discussion of the first edition, along with the balance of Scripture." |

This is probably the most helpful book I have read on the reality of suffering in light of God's goodness and sovereignty. Carson addresses the various reasons for suffering described in Scripture. "How Long O Lord?" is characterized by careful scholarship and pastoral warmth. If you struggle with understanding how a good God can allow bad things to happen then "How Long O Lord?" will be very helpful. |
