Publisher Description: The Minor Prophets are an important, but often neglected part of the Bible. The corpus which constitutes the Minor Prophets includes twelve books written by twelve different prophets. Due to the number of books, they were historically referred to as "The Book of the Twelve" or simply "The Twelve." Today, they are most commonly referred to as the "Minor Prophets." It is important to note, however, that they are not referred to as "minor" because they lack theological significance, but rather this title solely reflects the relatively short length of their individual prophecies. In fact, these twelve books are anything but minor. They are filled with tremendously deep and rich theological material. The Minor Prophets will certainly not prove minor to any reader who will invest the time to explore them.
Professor Recommendation: With the exception of a few well-known passages, the Minor Prophets are little known and little read in Christian circles; yet they contain a wealth of teaching for God’s people, from warnings about complacency and triumphalism, to exhortations to justice for the poor and the weak, to encouragements to those facing the hostility of the world around. Above all, of course, they teach us Christ. We should all welcome therefore this excellent book from Anthony Selvaggio in which he achieves the seemingly impossible: the opening up of these twelve wonderful books in a concise yet profound manner. As a preacher and churchman, Selvaggio has a passion for God’s people and for God’s word; he also has a profound grasp of how to communicate deep theology in an accessible and humble manner; and here he demonstrates time and again that the Minor Prophets are a vital resource for God’s pilgrim people. A book to read and to recommend to others. —Carl R. Trueman, Professor of Church History and Historical Theology
