Calhoun continues the saga begun in the Faith & Learning volume with developments at Princeton involving J. A. and J. W. Alexander (sons of Archibald Alexander) and A. A. Hodge (son of Charles Hodge). Also involved in this story are B. B. Warfield, Francis Landey Patton, J. Gresham Machen, Geerhardus Vos, and a host of others who were among the burgeoning faculty. During this period of time Princeton goes from reflecting the establishment mentality of the new American republic to becoming the embattled bastion of Calvinistic orthodoxy in the era of Darwinian evolution and rise of classic Protestant Liberalism. Eventually Princeton itself would succumb to the pressure of Liberalism in the administrative reorganization of the school in 1929 that led to the founding of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. - Jeff Waddington - Westminster Bookstore Staff |
