Publisher's Description: Reformed Thought presents some of the writings from the career of William Young. Young is a trained philosopher and theologian who rubbed shoulders with men like John Murray and Gordon Clark. He is also a churchman, dedicated to the edification and wellbeing of God’s people. And as this collection of essays demonstrates, he is the kind of man who feels just as much at home discussing technical matters of metaphysics as he does promoting experiential Christianity. This book is a testimony to Young’s wide ranging interests and capabilities, presenting a number of theological and philosophical essays, some sermons and other pastoral writings, and several book reviews.

“The reader will discover that for breadth of scope, wealth of content, depth of understanding, and strength of conviction, not to mention intensity of passion, William Young has few peers. It is a privilege to be able to commend Bill’s Selected Writings to a wider readership.”
- Paul Helm, J. I. Packer Professor of Theology and Philosophy, Regent College
“William Young used to visit our home after evening worship for what, to me, was a feast of profitable discussion. Now, these many years later, this fine collection of his writing has enabled me to take up where we left off. I welcome its publication and heartily recommend it.”
- G. I. Williamson, author of The Westminster Shorter Catechism: For Study Classes
“Every student of classic, Reformation theology and piety will warmly receive Dr. Young’s contribution to the literature. His writings reflect breadth of experience, penetrating insight, and a healthy dose of wit. Indeed, his disregard for conventional wisdom combined with a fiery loyalty to the truth is refreshing!”
- Michael Ives, Pastor of the Presbyterian Reformed Church of East Greenwich, Rhode Island
"Reformed Thought presents some of the shorter writings from the pen of Dr. William Young. Young graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary with both a BD and a ThM. He had a distinguished teaching career including service at Butler University and a long tenure as Professor of Philosophy at The University of Rhode Island. Dr. Young’s academic career highlights the fact that it is possible to be a faithful witness for Christ in the academy. In this area in particular he has been an excellent representative of Westminster. Ordained in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Young served as stated supply in churches in Canada and in the United States, with his longest tenure being as Stated Supply and then Minister of a Presbyterian Reformed Congregation in Rhode Island.
A published author of books of philosophy, Young also spent much of his career contributing to a number of journals and church magazine and this book contains an eclectic mix of these shorter pieces. Subjects covered include, philosophy, Biblical studies, ecclesiology and church polity. Some of the best writing is found in the sermons included here, which display a Puritan-like passion for “experimental Christianity”. This offers an excellent corrective to what is found in some parts of the contemporary evangelical world, where belief is not properly accompanied with self examination and a holy life.
While readers may disagree with some of his opinions and find some of his views a little hard to digest, all of the essays presented here are thought provoking and stimulating. They display a passion for truth, a love for the church and a deep desire to see the glory of God at work in the world.”
- Alexander (Sandy) Finlayson, Professor of Theological Bibliography and Library Director at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia
