Publisher's Description

Is a preaching-centered ministry truly useful in today's society? Alexander argues through this booklet that biblical, expository preaching is as central to any church's acivity as Scripture is to its life, and explains why a focus on such preaching is more important than ever.

Divided into eight main sections, this helpful resource deals with such subjects as the characteristics of expository preaching, its urgency in the church today, and the need for it to be pastoral, clear, and relevant.

"Eric J Alexander's outstanding gift of biblical exposition has borne rich fruit throughout the English-speaking world and far beyond. Multitudes of Christians and a small army of preachers owe him a permanent debt for his teaching, example, and personal encouragement—few, if any, more than I do.

"Biblical faithfulness, Christ centeredness, a God-honoring heartbeat, crystal clear instruction, satisfying nourishment, and affectionate application—these have been the hallmarks of Eric Alexander's preaching. Coupled with them has been a life of exemplary pastoral care and an emphasis on the centrality of prayer in the life of both the preacher and his people. These pages contain the distilled essence of such a ministry and underscore its importance.

"Eric Alexander's name, alongside the vital importance of the topic about which he writes, are all that is required to commend these pages to anyone who has a burden for the preaching of God's word in our time."
- Sinclair Ferguson, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Systematic Theology, Westminster Theological Seminary

"Over the past generation, Eric Alexander has been one of the world's leading preachers. In this useful booklet he lays out eight bedrock principles for the faithful exposition of Scripture. All of the hallmarks of his influential ministry are present here: abiding passion for the Word of God, tender love for the church of Jesus Christ, deep dependence on the Holy Spirit, and pressing urgency for the proclamation of the gospel."
Philip Graham Ryken

"Those who teach and lead will love these booklets because they are a perfect resource to share with inquirers and to use in discipleship. Church members will love them because they supply meaty and understandable instruction in important aspects of Christian doctrine, duty, and devotion."
- Ligon Duncan

- Charles Dunahoo

"When seminary students ask me to name contemporary expositors whose preaching is most worthy of emulation, Eric Alexander's name always comes instantly to mind. He is one of the finest biblical preachers I have ever listened to—never straying from his text, always giving proper weight to each point in the passage—and passionately, persuasively driving home the truth of God's Word with incredible power but seemingly effortless delivery. His insights on preaching are pure gold, and this book is a real treasure."
- John MacArthur
