The main idea of the book is to promote a journey of understanding between Christians and Muslims.

Zaka and McDowell have produced a helpful introduction to the Islamic faith and a “how to” manual for Christians who desire to interact with and evangelize Muslims within the North American context. As the authors point out, the United States and Canada together have become a major center for intellectual ferment in the last few decades. Zaka and McDowell divide their book into four sections: (1) reasons for being interested in the Islamic faith and its adherents, (2) the historical and cultural background of Muslims, (3) theology of Islam, and (4) strategies for reaching Muslims. Bruce A. Mcdowell (MATS, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; DMin, Westminster Theological Seminary) is the missions pastor and the director of International Students Christian Fellowship at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has studied Islam at Temple University and has experience in Muslim ministry in the United States and countries around the world.

Anees Zaka (DMin, Westminster Theological Seminary) is the founder and director of Church without Walls and founder and president of the Biblical Institute for Islamic Studies, both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is coauthor of Muslims and Christians at the Table.
