The Essential Pastoral Bundle (NSBT)
Hear, My Son is a volume by Daniel J. Estes who synthesizes the teachings of the first nine chapters of Proverbs into a systematic statement of the theory of education and personal formation that lies behind the text. Topics include; values, curriculum and goals for education, the process of instruction, as well as the role of the teacher and learner.
In Shepherds After My Own Heart Timothy S. Laniak looks at prototypes of leaders such as David and Moses who formed the background for the ministry of Jesus, as the good shepherd. Laniak makes application for todays pastor’s as shepherd leaders.
In Father, Son and Spirit Andreas J. Kostenberger and Scott R. Swain look to John’s Gospel as they uncover the knowledge, doctrine and worship of the triune God. In their study they find patterns that seek to account in some way for the distinct personhood and divinity of Father, Son and Spirit without compromising the unity of God.
In the final volume of the Essential Pastoral Set Jonathan Griffith’s book, Preaching in the New Testament, looks at the Biblical history of the very nature of preaching. The author seeks to answer such questions as; is there such a thing as "preaching" that is mandated in the post-apostolic context—and, if there is, how is it defined and characterized? How does post-apostolic "preaching" relate to the preaching of the Old Testament prophets and of Jesus and his apostles? He ends by summarizing the exegetical findings, sets them within the context of biblical theology, and proposes a number of broader theological implications.

“Every volume in this series has been significant and worthy, and this volume follows in that same line. Preachers have found tremendous encouragement, and challenging observations, from Griffiths' unfolding of preaching throughout the New Testament. Preachers will also be encouraged by understanding the gravity and importance of preaching as Griffiths displays the preaching ministry of the Church as found in the New Testament.”
R. Albert Mohler
President at the Southern Bapstist Theological Seminary, Preaching Magazine, Spring 2018
“This volume addresses the need for a biblical theology of preaching by focusing on some foundational matters before closely studying a handful of passages in Paul and in Hebrews. Considering how much preaching is done week by week around the world, it is good to have a study that requires us to reflect on what we are doing.”
D. A. Carson
Series Editor
“What a great encouragement for maintaining the centrality of preaching in our worship! Tasting heaven as God speaks to us through his word; what a great thought! Preaching in the New Testament: An Exegetical and Biblical-Theological Study by Jonathan I. Griffiths is a great scholarly resource and encouragement to pastors in their regular work of exegesis and preaching ministry. Griffiths’ wok comes with the highest recommendations.”
Jacques Roets
Mid-America Journal of Theology
"A welcome attempt to bridge a disciplinary divide that sometimes serves to stifle conversation between practitioners of biblical and theological studies. . . Like all interesting conversations, it is well worth listening to the dialogue that emerges from this collaborative effort."
Aaron J. Kuecker
Biblical Theology Bulletin, Volume 40
"A clearly argued and accessible study on the trinitarian theology of the Gospel of John. . .A stimulating overview to both current trinitarian thought and the broader scholarly debates within the field of Johannine studies."
J. Brian Tucker
Bulletin for Biblical Research
"Kostenberger and Swain have written an accessible and practical volume that provides a stimulating overview to both current trinitarian thought and the broader scholarly debates within the field of Joahnnine studies. This work will prove useful for thoughtful pastors, seminary students, and informed laypersons. It fills a lacuna in the field of biblical studies by providing a biblical survey and theological overview of the Trinity as it is presented in the Gospel of John."
J. Brian Tucker
Bulletin for Biblical Research, 19.4, 2009
"In the midst of the Trinity debates in evangelicalism today, Father, Son and Spirit is a welcome contribution that provides a solid biblical-theological study of one of the most important biblical books on the triune nature of the Godhead."
Philip R. Gons
Themelios (thegospelcoalition.org), Issue 33-3
"I highly recommend this volume for pastors as well as those interested in more technical debates regarding the Trinity. The conclusions and theological reflections will provide the reader with a solid basis to begin thinking critically about issues such as missions and evangelism. The book will also provide small group leaders and Sunday school teachers with great curriculum ideas."

"It is the holistic vision of 'instruction' . . . that occupies the attention of Dr. Estes. His work not only illuminates some important chapters of the Old Testament but serves as a salutary reminder for the people of God today to keep certain fundamental priorities clear."
D. A. Carson

“This book is a must-read for both ministers and scholars.”
