The Power to Save: A History of the Gospel in China
Bob Davey gives us a detailed account of the works of God in China from the nineteenth century onwards. It will inform and encourage believers in its depiction of the fire of God's Spirit spreading through China unquenched by persecution and suffering. Of special interest is the desire of the Chinese house-church movements to root themselves in historic Christianity. His emphasis on the indigenous Church and its leaders is very welcome. His call to prayer as the Chinese Church embarks on mission beyond its borders is timely.
Includes a Foreword by Sinclair B. Ferguson

“Davey's The Power to Save covers the gospel history from the years of Marco Polo to present days. The book attempts to put the church history in China in the context of dramatic social-economic changes in the past two hundred years. The author impressively packed a large amount of historical data in a small volume. I particularly applaud for Davey's insightful selection of the significant events and people to cover. In addition, as an insider, I am amazed by the accuracy of the account of contemporary church history from 1949 to late 1990's, whose accessibility is challenge for westerns. This a must-read for all ministers and lay people interested in China ministry. It is also a concise handbook for China ministry veterans.”
